Russ Roca and Laura Crawford are setting off on their second biking adventure across America but this time they are using the clever folding Brompton bicycles and combining their leg work with some relaxing train travel too. Big Adventure, Small Wheels takes them meandering across the USA, wherever the wind (well, the train tracks and cycle paths) take them. Having sold everything they own, they spent 15 months cycling The Path Less Pedaled around the States and it seems that that just wasn’t enough so they are off to do it again. Why do they love it so much?
We’re not super-athletes. We’re not out to set any speed records. The mileage doesn’t really matter. Our journey is about meeting people, tasting new foods, seeing unknown corners of the world. We travel on bicycle because we move slowly. We can sink into our surroundings and connect deeply with the world around us. We can watch the rain create rivers, play harmonica under the stars, cook dinner over an open fire.
If that doesn’t make you want to dust off your bike and pump up the tyres we don’t know what will. Travelling by train, bike or plain old feet makes the journey every bit as fun and interesting as the destination and increases your vacation time by creating a holiday within a holiday. Using those few extra days of travelling to see new landscapes, explore the unexplored and experience new places will turn your holiday into the best two for one deal you’ve ever bought!
